Natural stone finishes: polished, honed, aged, and brushed
The finish on a natural stone completely changes its look, its feel, and even how it behaves with stains and fingerprints — and yet it's one of the last things most people think about when choosing. Here are the four main finishes, explained.
Polished: the shiniest and most popular
This is the classic finish, with a mirror-like shine that brings out the color and veining of the stone to the fullest. It shows off the material's natural beauty better than any other finish, though it's also the one that shows fingerprints and small surface scratches the most.
Honed: understated elegance, more practical
No shine, with a surface that feels smooth to the touch. It hides fingerprints and small marks far better than polished stone, making it a very practical choice for heavily used kitchens. The color looks slightly more muted than in a polished finish.
Aged: rustic-elegant character
Achieved with a treatment that mimics the natural wear of time, giving the stone a slightly irregular texture and a more handcrafted look. Highly sought after in Mediterranean or rustic-elegant style projects.
Brushed: subtle texture, natural look
A mechanical brushing softens the surface without going all the way to a full polish, leaving a slightly textured feel and a very natural look, somewhere between honed and aged.
How to choose?
It depends on the style you're after and how much you care about hiding everyday use. In our showroom you can see and touch the same material in different finishes side by side, something no photo can truly convey. Come see it in person or ask us on WhatsApp.
