Custom Marble Sinks: How to Choose the Right One for Your Bathroom

A custom marble sink is a natural stone sink, cut and finished to the exact measurements, shape and style of your bathroom. It's not a standard factory model — each piece is chosen from a real slab, so its veining, tone and character are unique.

It's the ideal choice if you're renovating a bathroom and want the sink to be the centerpiece, if you're after a luxury finish that lasts for years, or if you have a space with unusual dimensions that no standard sink solves well. At AMBZ Natural Stone we make these in our own workshop in Novelda, Alicante, and we also install them, whenever that service is available for your project and area.

Types of natural stone sinks

Before choosing the stone, it's worth deciding on the type of sink. Each one completely changes the look of the bathroom and how it's installed.

  • Countertop sink. One of the most sought-after in design bathrooms. It sits on top of the countertop and is fully on display, so the stone shows at its best. Works beautifully with marble and onyx, and allows for round, oval, rectangular or irregular shapes.
  • Wall-mounted sink. Fixed to the wall, leaving the floor clear. It gives a sense of space, makes cleaning easier, and suits small bathrooms or minimalist layouts.
  • Integrated sink. Sink and countertop form a single piece of stone, with no visible seams. Elegant, easy to clean, and perfect for a continuous, uninterrupted bathroom.
  • Double sink. Two basins on one countertop, ideal for shared bathrooms. Made to measure, the distance between them, the height and the space for each person can all be adjusted.

If you're torn between two types, think first about daily use: who will use it, how much counter space you need, and whether you'd rather the sink stand out or blend in. You can see real examples in our sinks catalog.

Which stone to choose: marble, granite, onyx, quartzite or travertine

The stone isn't just a color — it changes the hardness, the maintenance and the feel. Here are some of the options we can offer at AMBZ, subject to real availability at any given time:

Marble. The classic choice for luxury bathrooms. Elegant veining and a natural shine that's hard to match. Options like Ivory Cream bring warmth, while Alicante Red gives a far bolder, distinctly Spanish character. Perfect if you want beauty and a polished, sophisticated finish.

Granite. Harder and more resistant than marble for many everyday uses. A great choice for high-traffic bathrooms, homes with children, or second residences where durability matters without giving up natural stone. See the varieties available in our granite catalog.

Onyx. One of the most spectacular stones. It's translucent, so with backlighting it creates a uniquely luminous effect in the bathroom. It's a design piece, not just a sink. See it in detail in our onyx section.

Quartzite. Combines elegant veining with real hardness. Taj Mahal Quartzite, for example, has soft, light-toned veins and is an interesting option for projects seeking both beauty and durability.

Travertine. A more natural, porous look, with earthy tones and a warm texture. Suits Mediterranean-style bathrooms, rustic-elegant spaces, or those combined with wood and natural fibers.

How to choose your custom marble sink in 5 steps

  1. Measure the space properly. Width, depth and available height, and where the faucet and drain will go. On a custom sink, a few centimeters change the comfort and the final result.
  2. Decide how much it should stand out. If you want the sink to be the centerpiece, choose a stone with strong veining, like a marble or an onyx. For a calmer look, go for light tones and soft veins.
  3. Think about the countertop. The sink and the countertop need to work together. You can make both in the same stone for a continuous effect, or contrast them — for example, an onyx sink over a dark countertop.
  4. Choose the finish. Polished for maximum shine and elegance, honed for a calmer, more natural look, or brushed as a middle ground. The finish also affects how water marks show.
  5. Consider real-world use. A main bathroom used daily doesn't need the same as a guest powder room. Tell us how you'll use it and we'll recommend the right stone and finish.

Cleaning and maintenance: easier than it looks

The big fear with marble is staining. With proper sealing and simple habits, a natural stone sink can last for decades.

Clean it with water and a neutral soap, dry splashes when you can, and avoid harsh products like bleach, vinegar, concentrated limescale remover or abrasive cleaners. Don't leave dyes, makeup or colored products sitting on the stone. Sealing helps protect the surface against moisture and stains; the exact maintenance depends on the type of stone and finish.

Mistakes worth avoiding

  • Choosing from a photo alone, without seeing the real slab. Every natural stone slab is different, and the veining you see in a picture won't be exactly what ends up in your sink. That's why it matters to choose the stone with its real appearance in mind.
  • Copying standard measurements into a bathroom that isn't standard. A sink that's too large eats into counter space; one that's too small can look out of proportion and be less comfortable.
  • Forgetting about the faucet. The height and type of faucet should be decided alongside the sink, not afterward, especially for countertop models.

How we build your custom sink at AMBZ

First you choose the stone from our collection of marble, granite, onyx, quartzite and travertine, always subject to real availability. Then we work out the measurements, shape, sink type and finish together. We make it in our workshop and can coordinate installation depending on the project's characteristics and location.

If you're also renovating the kitchen, we can look into making the sink, countertop and kitchen in the same stone, for a much more coherent result throughout the home.

Frequently asked questions

Does marble stain easily? Not necessarily. Proper sealing and cleaning with neutral products help protect it. Avoid leaving harsh or colored products on the stone for long.

Is a natural stone sink heavy? Yes, usually heavier than a ceramic one. What matters is that the countertop, cabinet or wall fixing is prepared to bear its weight — this should be checked for each project.

Can it be made to my exact measurements? Yes, that's the advantage of custom work. Width, depth, height, shape and finish can all be adapted to your bathroom and faucet.

Marble or granite for a heavily-used bathroom? If you prioritize the look of the veining and the finish, marble can be a great choice. If you prioritize resistance to heavy use, granite or certain quartzites can be interesting alternatives.

How much does a custom marble sink cost? It depends on the stone, the size, the shape and the finish. That's why the quote is personalized — tell us about your project and we can give you a real price.

Do you also make kitchens and countertops in the same stone? Yes, we manufacture and install natural stone kitchens and countertops in our own workshop. See more on our kitchens page.
